On Tuesday and Wednesday, eighteen boys from the upper school performed in the annual fall drama called, I Never Saw Another Butterfly. The fall Drama cast combined with the Intro to Street Dance class and performed a spectacular show incorporating dance for the effect.
During World War Terezin was one of the many Jewish ghettos. The majority of the Jews sent were scholars, professionals, artists and musicians. Most of the inmates that went through Terezin were killed. This was all part of a Nazi plot to deceive International Red Cross inspectors into believing that Jews were being treated humanely. This facade masked the fact that of the 144,000 Jews were sent there, about 33,000 died, mostly because of the appalling conditions. At the end of the war there were only 17,247 survivors.
Of the 15,00 children moved through Terezin, only 100 survived.
Based off of a true story, the play is a bout Raja Englanderova's experience as a young girl during the Holocaust. Raja meets new people along the way, including a young boy named Honza also living in the ghetto. Together they unite the segregated boys and girls houses, with a secret newspaper called VEDEM.
Raja's story is permeated with loss and anguish, but it is also infused with love and hope!
All the props and sets were built by our techies and the upper school drama cast!

Great post Maahin, and great blog! I really like the way you talk about major events at the Fenn School! The only suggestion I have is maybe you could add more pictures to your posts, but that's your choice, and either way its awesome!
